About the Art Nouveau Number 4 design
Two of these fours leave the top open, with the left stroke standing apart from the stem and dropping to the crossbar, once as a tall slanted blade and once as a curved hook. In both, the stem starts lower than that stroke and flares toward its base. A heavy closed version squeezes its triangular window into a sliver and droops the crossbar tip into a curl. Elsewhere a hairline diagonal bows outward into a sail, and a rounded monoline face parks a short slab beneath its stem.
