About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter B is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Letter B design
Nearly every B here sets its waist well above center, so a small upper bowl perches on a swollen lower one. One heavy face lets that lower bowl stop short of the stem and curl up like a fern tip. Another flips the scheme: a leaning stem carries a tall upper loop that sweeps down in a long diagonal to a small bowl at the foot. The thinnest face keeps flat serifs and a hairline waist.
