About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter R is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Letter R design
Legs carry the flourish on this R. On the heaviest face the leg splays into a wide wedge, while a soft bold version kinks it like a bent knee and kicks out a rounded foot. A slim serif face flicks its leg upward into a hairline tail, and a rounded face ends in a curled ball like a fern tip. The last keeps things lean, with a narrow loop of a bowl and a leg dropping almost straight.
