About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter N is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Letter N design
No two of these Ns agree on the ends of their strokes. One flares its stems toward the feet, one leans forward on bowed legs with soft rounded tips, and one caps hairline uprights with flat serifs against a heavy diagonal. Another finishes in rounded, pill-shaped serifs, while the fifth drops the diagonal and springs a tall, narrow arch off its left stem like a bent hairpin.
