About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter Y is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
8 Art Deco typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Deco Letter Y design
Contrast drives this Y, and several faces pit a heavy left arm against a hairline right arm. Two faces fuse the stem and left arm into one tall rounded slab, and one of them runs a white inline stripe down its length. Bowed caps sit across the arm tips on the serif versions, where one face hollows the left arm into an open double line. Another face bends its arms into a deep horseshoe above a broad arched base bar.
