About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter W is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
8 Art Deco typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Deco Letter W design
Thick downstrokes meet hairline upstrokes in most versions of this W, so the letter becomes heavy wedges leaning right beside thin wires. Two faces slice a narrow white inline down those heavy strokes, while two others cap the arms with curved bars that droop like a handlebar mustache. One face lets the middle strokes cross past each other, and another cuts the center peak off flat, leaving a stubby post between two sweeping horns.
