About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter F is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
8 Art Deco typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Deco Letter F design
The stem of this F swells into a heavy slab in several faces, so broad it nearly outweighs the pair of slender arms that hang from its right edge. One version slices a thin white channel down that slab, and another opens it into twin rails standing on a curved foot. The top arm changes the most: it tapers to a rounded tip, drops into a small hook, or bends upward into a shallow arch like an awning over the middle bar.
