About the Mortarboard design

A wide diamond lies almost flat across the top, an even band drawn around a big open lozenge, the board a frame rather than a slab. Under it the cap hangs as a deep V, its two arms dropping straight down before angling in to a point that sits directly below the diamond's near corner. The tassel is just a straight bar falling from the right corner and stopping square, no knot and no fringe at the end.
