Where the Myers name comes from

Myers has at least four origins with nothing to do with one another. The Old French mire means a physician. The Old English maire means a mayor. The Old Norse myrr means a marsh, which makes it a name about where a family lived rather than what they did. In Ireland it is the anglicised O Meidhir, from meidhir, mirth, and in Dutch and German families it is an Americanised Meyer or Mayer.
